After Day 2 of the Dems Convention
The Democrats still don't have a solid, simple, strong, and consistent message. The Democrats need to hammer the difference between the policies, point by point, but in very simple terms. They have to drop the old rhetoric and create new attack lines. Sen. John McCain's policies leave themselves wide open to valid attacks -that isn't to say his plans are bad or good but their are people who would find his policies unacceptable. Same with Obama's policies mind you.
Their are huge distinctions in the two candidates tax plans alone. The only common tax cut appears to be the corporate tax cut being lowered. They could make the message as simple as "if you're making less than $150,000, you'll be paying $800-$1,000 less under my plan; under McCain you'll get maybe $200 in tax cuts". Economy is the number one issue. Period. People want more money. Period. Add the fact that Sen. McCain wants to tax healthcare coverage paid for by companies as actual gross income.
The infrastructure plan Obama has put forward isn't put forward strongly enough and that message should play huge in places like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. Should play well in Virginia as well because Obama's economic plan is very close to the current Virginian economic policies. Virginia has been rated the best state for business three years in a row.
Where is the economic message from the Democrats and Obama? This election is quite simple: Own the economy.
