The Day the Bailout Failed

A few things:

  • 1) You don't bring a bill to the floor this important without knowing you have every vote needed to pass it. You don't bring this type of a bill to the floor for a vote that has a chance at failing. Period.
  • 2) You don't make highly partisan speech's that ruffle feathers.
  • 2a) You don't allow someone to act like herself and say a bunch of stuff she always says effect your vote.
  • 2B) You don't put your country second to hurt feelings. That's how you cost 500 trillion more than the entire bill itself.
  • 3) As the party in power, you pass a needed bill whether the minority party helps you or not.
  • 4) You don't call "regular order" when the minority party is trying to stop the vote process in order to rally his party to make sure they get behind and support the bill instead of allowing it to fail.
  • 5) You don't somehow run from your party's president and possible next president just because the Republican brand name is in the trash can right now. You support them anyway because you know the plan is needed.
For those who are confused by point number four: When you see a bill you want to pass isn't getting the votes you know it needs, you can essentially call for a motion on the floor of the House to stop the voting process without it killing the bill itself. At the time the Republican leader in the House was trying to do this, Barney Frank (D) yelled out "regular order" which blocks the motion and forces the roll call vote to continue.
