Media Coverage
A lot of talk about the media coverag of Gov. Palin. A few things should be pointed out. Yes, their has been some unfair reporting on Gov. Palin. The majority of it however, arguably 90% of it, has been fair and valid. The truth is that outside of some very few exceptions, the majority of trash being talked about in regards to Gov. Palin and her family has been done by the National Enquirer and US Weekly, plus other tabloid trash "media". The trick by the McCain campaign is to paint a picture that it has been the entire media. In fact, the majority of written media coverage by mainstream news sources has been positive, both about the political implications of the pick and her speech. "The media" doesn't include bloggers (such as me) and/or the National Enquirer although the McCain campaign and talking pundits would like everyone to think it did. NE is the only outlet that has been disgraceful, is that actually a conservative or liberal media thing though? Both parties find NE to be trash. Steve Schmidt, the head of the McCain campaign, is who leaked that such trash was even being asked by "the media" even admitting that it was questioning done off the record. If it is off the record, and wasn't being reported but merely asked, then it didn't make the news until Schmidt put it out there. He wouldn't even be specific as to who was asking such pathetic and disgraceful questions which makes it likely, since they're the only ones reporting on such things in regards to Palin, that it was tabloid media which is completely seperate from mainstream news coverage.
It was a smart political move to fead the supposed double standard coverage in order to bring into question Obama's qualifications of experience. It was a mistake by the Democrats and talking pundits to even talk about experience and Gov. Palin's record.
Both parties need to start seperating blogs from mainstream media. The mainstream media also needs to stop feading or rather reporting on trash from blogs. This includes left leaning and right leaning media outlets.
Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain were both right: Children are off limits and trash has no part of political coverage.
It would help if everyone would just stop talking about it and watch the tabloids stop talking and the bloggers stop talking. No attention payed means no attention given to a subject.
What should be considered valid topics to cover:
Experience.
The trooper situation.
Husband being part of the Alaskan Independent Party and Palin giving many speeches to them (solely because Rev. Jeremiah Wright was considered fair game; neither actually have to do with policy/plans for the future...understand/respect some feel it speaks to judgement).
Record on taxes.
Record on environment.
Record on foriegn affairs.
Earmarks and pork barrel spending she's asked and lobbied for.
